Building Trust and Safety from the Start

Tellis adopts an eclectic therapeutic approach and uses various methods to ensure that each client is fully supported. This means he is able to meet you where you are at from the very beginning.  His goal is to make you feel empowered, safe, and heard when in the therapy space. He believes that there is something special about witnessing clients take steps on their path to healing, all while living life in a way that aligns with their values.

Lifelong Passion for Empowering Change

Tellis was fortunate to have an inspiring teacher in high school who sparked his interest in psychology. This led him to pursue the field throughout college, but it wasn’t until he began working in case management that he truly discovered his passion for helping others achieve their goals and make meaningful changes in their lives.

The Journey Here

Tellis received his Masters in Counseling Psychology from Wayne State University in 2023 and prior to joining Together We Thrive, he worked as a therapist and referral coordinator in private practice as a case manager in community mental health. While working in case management, Tellis received a certification in Motivational Interviewing and was trained to work with various populations throughout his graduate program. He is committed to helping others and intends to explore professional opportunities for growth in all aspects of therapy.

The Heart Behind the Work

I am originally from Alpena, MI, and part of my graduate program training involved developing an awareness of my privilege as a white, cisgender male. I’ve learned how important it is to be mindful of the ways in which this privilege shapes my perspective and interactions.

Healing Through Inclusivity

As a therapist, I strive to create a space where all clients feel heard, respected, and valued, regardless of their identity. This approach not only allows me to better understand and learn from my clients’ diverse experiences, but also helps me advocate for inclusivity and equity, both in and outside of the therapy space. Furthermore, it is fulfilling to provide a consistent, positive presence in my clients’ lives.

Embracing Authenticity and Connection

My friends/ family would laugh at me for this but I would say Shrek is my favorite movie. There are layers to it and I think it reflects important messages—friendship, self-acceptance, compassion, and courage. Also, it’s hilarious!

Beyond the Therapy Room

During my downtime, I enjoy watching sports and movies. (Especially Shrek!) I also place a priority on spending time with friends and family, and taking care of my pets!
