Connecting with Empathy
Nicole’s approach to therapy focuses on building a connection to create a supportive space for honest conversations and healing growth. She is known for being empathic and warm. Before getting into deep work, her goal is to build rapport and help her clients feel safe whether in office or over telehealth. She employs a warm, honest approach to therapy but is mindful to meet each client where they are. Every journey starts somewhere and Nicole will guide you on a path towards deep and true healing with understanding and compassion every step of the way.
Her Journey Here
Nicole attended and graduated from Madonna University in Livonia, Michigan. Moving to warmer weather, she served her community as Licensed Substance Abuse Therapist in Arizona from 2008-2020. After returning to Michigan, she became a licensed psychologist.
Prior to joining Together We Thrive, Nicole worked directly for the State of Michigan and was an integral component of another local practice.
Advancing Her Practice
I will soon be incorporating Schema Therapy into my therapeutic practice and I am pursuing more training in psychological testing for ADHD, OCD, PTSD in order to best meet the needs of my clients.
In Her Own Words
The best part of being a therapist is seeing change and meeting new people. I love engaging and meeting new people. I love the deep connection that forms as we work together to explore their challenges, celebrate their triumphs, and everything in between. Helping clients gain insight, develop coping strategies, and find hope in the midst of adversity is my calling. There’s something deeply meaningful about walking alongside someone during difficult times and celebrating their progress. The privilege of supporting others as they work towards healing and uncovering their inner strength is what fuels my passion for this work every day.
Max, Therapy Dog
HI! My name is Maximilian (Max) Cordero. I am a Maltipoo from Grand Rapids, MI. I am a newly certified Therapy Dog. I love going to work with my mom and meeting new people. I love to give hugs, kisses and snuggling up if you need support. In my spare time, I like to sleep, play with my dog brothers and my cat brother, Benjamin. I hope to meet you soon!
The Heart Behind the Work
I grew up here in Michigan, in charming Ann Arbor and being the daughter of two Mexican Immigrants means I bring a unique perspective to my work as a therapist.
I understand firsthand the challenges of navigating multiple cultural identities and the cultural complexities of family dynamics. My upbringing has taught me the importance of resilience, community, and empathy. I bring a deep appreciation for all cultural nuances and the value of honoring one’s heritage as I meet new clients exactly where they are at in their journey. My experience as a first generation Mexican-American allows me to connect with clients from diverse backgrounds in a meaningful way.
My approach to therapy focuses on offering a safe and affirming space for healing and growth.
Mental Healthcare for Every Identity
Every therapist has a defining moment that shapes their commitment to mental well-being. For me, it was growing up with a close family member who lived with a mental health disorder. Witnessing their challenges firsthand sparked a deep desire to help others facing similar difficulties, and it drives my dedication to supporting others on their path towards healing.
For the Thrill of It
I love psychological thriller books and horror films.
The unpredictable plots really challenges me to think critically about motivation and perception. The suspense and emotional depth in these stories lets me really dive deep into the story and it’s cathartic. A different kind of exploration into the human psyche.
Seeking Joy
With the little free time I have— I love to read, workout, travel, and take walks in nature. There’s something special when you’re under the trees and a light breeze rustles the green branches overhead as you’re walking along a well worn path.
One of my favorite activities at the moment is designing the aesthetic of my new home.
When I get the chance to travel back to the West Coast, I love to go to the beach. I enjoy reconnecting with myself and nature along as I go hiking, and find new places to explore.
